The Jiu-Jitsu Community

Have you ever wondered what Jiu-Jitsu
is and decided to take a look at what these
“Jiu-Jitsu people” do?

In one circumstance you might see two men or women trying to smash each
other into the ground. But in another, you could find a group of people laughing
and smiling as they enjoy their time together. Although both illustrations resemble
a part of what Jiu-Jitsu is, you will find that it is the smiles and laughter that
represent the community as a whole.

This goal builds teams of people who will selflessly devote their time and energy to others, and it is these teams that make up the Jiu-Jitsu community. The best part is that this community has a place for everyone. Jiu-Jitsu is not concerned about your age, gender, ethnicity, wealth, social class, or any other metric. It is only you and your teammates.

You will build close bonds, make new friendships, and gain not only the trust of others but the ability to trust others. The camaraderie present during training extends outside of practice with group events, holiday get-togethers, cookouts, weekend trips, and maybe even traveling to another country together. We check in on each other when there’s an absence and offer assistance when someone is sick or injured.

We take pride in the accomplishments of each member, as an individual’s success is a win for the entire team. We’re all on the path to success together, and it is everyone’s duty to make their teammates the best they can be.

The goal of Jiu-Jitsu is to empower individuals & give people the tools to succeed in all aspects of life.

A rising tide lifts all boats.

The Benefits of Jiu-Jitsu

Jiu-Jitsu grants children the strength to stand
up for themselves and the confidence to navigate the stresses of everyday life.

There are many skills and behaviors that children need to grasp in their
developmental years. Mental skills like problem-solving, critical thinking,
emotional control, and the ability to stay motivated are crucial for children.
These skills are proven necessary from their primal years of schooling, to
being adults in the workforce, and even in their own leisure with friends and
family. Physical motor skills are also important for children to grow.

Developing these skills early will allow children to become better workers, and athletes, and help to maintain their physical health overall. Through Jiu-Jitsu, they will develop coordination skills that can be difficult (and even impossible) to practice in a regular classroom setting. In addition, Jiu-Jitsu will carefully expose children to unfamiliar situations. This is where children are allowed the opportunity to exercise and foster those crucial mental skills.

They will learn to (1) assess and analyze troubling situations, (2) identify the obstacles causing those situations, and (3) solve and surpass obstacles in a calm and controlled manner.

And, of course, Jiu-Jitsu will teach children how to defend themselves in physical confrontations. Whether they encounter a bully at school, an attack while walking home, or have to defend a friend or family member, Jiu-Jitsu will grant children the strength to stand up for themselves and the confidence to navigate the stresses of everyday life.

These training methods instill valuable personal traits such as leadership, accountability, respect for others, and more.

The art of Jiu-Jitsu is worth more in every way than all of our athletics combined.

Giving Back

Unfortunately, bullying is still a very common
occurrence today. It primarily affects children
and young adults, in schools and on the internet.

One out of every five students has reported being bullied. We have
surveyed kids in our community and almost every child admitted to either
being bullied or knowing someone who is bullied.

When these situations are allowed to persist, the consequences can be severe. It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge a young child, Rio, in our community who chose to take their life because of the bullying they had endured. This tragedy has touched the hearts of so many people, and we are determined to help ensure that a tragedy of this degree never happens again

No child should ever have to fear the risk of being bullied. We fully believe that children should be able to attend school, walk their neighborhoods, and converse with their peers free of apprehension.

With this organization, we help children recognize their true strengths and potential. We want them to be sharp and astute when facing mental tasks, and brave when challenged physically.

We have seen first-hand how impactful Jiu-Jitsu can be in boosting self-esteem and mental calmness. We are excited to give so many children the gift of Jiu-Jitsu and to watch them grow into successful and contributable citizens.

The scary part is that none of the parents of these children were aware that any of it was happening. Some children struggle with bullies daily.

It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.
